New to NIL?
Start here.
NIL stands for Name, Image, and Likeness: a person's personal brand, and how they appear publicly. It is what lets student-athletes earn money while keeping their athlete status, and it is much simpler than most people realize.
What is NIL?
Name. Image. Likeness.
Name
A personal or brand name. The most basic building block of an athlete's identity, and the first thing a deal licenses.
Image
Photos, videos, and digital avatars. Anywhere an athlete's face or footage shows up, image rights are in play.
Likeness
Signature moves, unique traits, and personal identity. The things that make an athlete recognizable beyond a photo.
Why does NIL matter?
2021 changed everything.
In July 2021, the NCAA changed its rules to allow college athletes to benefit from their Name, Image, and Likeness. It transformed college sports, opening the door to financial freedom, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.
Athletes can now
