My name is Reyte Rash. I am a graduate of Cal State University, Fullerton, and a 400-meter hurdler. Growing up, both of my parents were deaf. However, the thing that made me stand out most from other kids wasn’t my name, my parents, or even being mixed race. Instead, what set me apart was that I always had the biggest dreams. I knew I wanted to be legendary at something, and when I started competing in sports, I knew I was going to be a legendary athlete.
I love many things—video games, camping, and extreme activities like skydiving—but nothing compares to the love I’ve found in running fast. In this sport, I ran the third-fastest time in the nation in the 300 hurdles in 2019, earned a scholarship to Cal State Fullerton, and now I am on my way to competing at the LA28 Olympics—all of which once seemed out of reach. To some, my dreams may seem too big, but to me, it’s just a matter of when.
