My name is Joachim, but I’m more commonly known as Yaya. I started track & field my freshman year of HS as a high jumper. Saw potential in that, as well triple jump my sophomore year, and I poured all my effort into that. The work resulted in graduating a 3x All American, 2x Indoor State Champ, Multi-Time Outdoor Conference and State Champ, 2x Regional Athlete of the Year, and the first Refuel With Chocolate Milk Field Athlete of the Year.
Then I landed at Harvard University as a triple and high jumper. My freshman year had its ups and downs, but I ended it as a TJ Outdoor Conference Champ—alongside 2 other podium finishes in HJ (Indoor (2nd), Outdoor (3rd)), and a qualification for NCAA First Round Regionals.
